Why We Train the Way We Do

Understanding Our New 8-Week Mayhem Cycle at CrossFit 1776

At CrossFit 1776, nothing in our programming is random. Every warm-up, strength piece, conditioning workout, accessory block, and gymnastics progression is placed with intention. As we move into our next 8-week cycle, we want you to understand why we program the way we do — and what it means for YOU as an athlete.

This is more than daily workouts. This is a year-round fitness system built for long-term growth, durability, and performance.

Why We Use Mayhem Programming

We choose Mayhem because it is one of the most trusted, well-designed, and proven systems in the CrossFit community. Mayhem programming is structured in cycles that intentionally build strength, skill, conditioning, and capacity over time, not just day-to-day.

Nothing is random.  Nothing is filler.  Nothing is “just to make you tired.”

It all builds on itself — for a reason.

When you train at CrossFit 1776, you’re not just getting a workout of the day…
You’re getting a full, intentional fitness training plan.

And as a member who invests your time, energy, and consistency with us, you deserve programming that respects that, programming that builds you up year-round.

What This 8-Week Cycle Is Designed to Build

1. Repeatable Conditioning Capacity

Expect structured intervals, controlled pacing work, and aerobic repeatability training.  This teaches you how to move well under fatigue, manage heart rate, and sustain effort across multiple rounds.

This is how you build an engine that lasts.

2. Progressive Strength Development

This cycle includes:

  • Snatch pulls + snatch technique
  • Bench press volume
  • Positional strength work
  • Accessory strength for joint health

Mayhem focuses on positions and consistency first — because better mechanics = better (and safer) strength long-term.

3. Gymnastics Skill Foundations

We’re emphasizing:

  • Core stability
  • Grip endurance
  • Strict strength
  • Handstand balance
  • Hollow/arch control

These fundamentals are what translate to better TTB, pull-ups, HSPU, and eventually more advanced gymnastics skills.

4. Accessory Work for Longevity

You’ll see Arnold presses, rows, hip-halo work, banded strength, tricep/shoulder stabilizers, and midline pieces.

This “unseen work” matters.
It keeps you healthy.
It fills the strength gaps that prevent injuries and plateaus.

5. All Three Energy Systems — Trained Intentionally

This cycle blends:

  • Long conditioning pieces
  • Short explosive intervals
  • Mixed-modal EMOMs
  • Traditional metcons
  • Partner grinders
  • Skill-heavy workouts

Because becoming fit isn’t about having one speed — it’s about having range.

6. Sunday Tracks Based on Your Goals

We offer three Sunday options because athletes have different needs:

  • Option 1: Traditional Metcon
  • Option 2: Aerobic Recovery
  • Option 3: Mayhem Racing
Choose the one your body needs that day.

What This Means For You

When you train at CrossFit 1776, you are getting:

  • A year-round training approach
  • Cycles that connect and build upon each other
  • Strength + skill + conditioning in balance
  • Intentional programming — not random workouts
  • A clear goal behind every session
  • Coaches who know the “why” behind each day
  • The confidence that your hour here actually matters

You show up with purpose — so we program with purpose.
